Fledgling Theologian

I realized something that I pray I never forget and really start to LIVE!

When I was 20 years old, I was meeting with the husband of the Jamaican woman who first shared the Gospel with me in a little tract entitled, “The Four Spiritual Laws,” which personal evangelism eventually led to my adult commitment of faith in Jesus Christ, the One I call my possibly imaginary Friend. This godly Christian man was mentoring me in my new “born again” spiritual life in Jesus.

He and I had been discussing Heaven and The Great Reckoning that will happen there when the “books were opened,” as it is described in the last Book of the collection of writings that we followers of Jesus Christ call “The Holy Bible.”

“And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books . . . .
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.”

In teaching me how wonderful it is that MY name was now written in “the Book of Life,” my spiritual mentor asked me, “If you were watching with Jesus every single scene of your life . . . every thought, word, or deed . . . visually portrayed on a big movie screen, would you want to still be there when the lights came back on!”

The point, of course, was that we ALL have things that we’ve thought, said, or done over which we are deeply, DEEPLY ashamed, but The Good News from the Bible is that because we have placed our faith or trust in the saving Blood of Jesus Christ, our sins can’t keep us out of Heaven BECAUSE our names are also written in God’s Book of Life!

That thought about one Day having to sit with God in a dark movie theater and watch portrayed on the big screen every detail of every one of my thoughts, words, or deeds haunted me all my life through the next forty five years.

Until now.

Because IF God IS Love, which the Holy Bible says that He is, and Love keeps no record of wrongdoing, which the Bible also says is true, and our Merciful Father “remembers our sins no more,” and even metaphorically “casts them all into the sea of forgetfulness,” like the Bible also teaches, and “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” in His Eyes before we place our puny faith and trust in the power of Jesus’ Holy Blood that was shed to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness . . . then there are NO “BOOKS” KEPT ON THE FAITHFUL!

Our Abba (literally, “Daddy”) Father is NEVER going to sit with us who believe in His Son Jesus Christ and rub our faces in our lifetimes of our filth!

Our Father who is LOVE personified will just show off our names, our True Names that Jesus finally gives us like it also says in that same last Book of the Bible, and then He’ll brag and BRAG like any Good Daddy would do before all the hosts of Heaven about (and even give rewards for) the times in our Christian lives when we walked and worked with Him, the times when we were the Hands and Feet of His Glorious Son, Jesus Christ!

For the follower of Jesus Christ, what I wrote above is GLORIOUS TRUTH, and I hope and pray that it doesn’t take forty five years to realize.

To them that ain’t followers of Jesus Christ, them’s fightin’ words, huh! And I can understand the feelings of disgust and revulsion and, even, grave offense. I used to share those sentiments. I also used to think, “WHO THE HELL are you, you so-called “Christian” with all your faults so readily apparent to tell me that I’m gonna go to hell if I don’t believe in your possibly imaginary Friend, Jesus Christ!”

To this I say, “Hey Man, I didn’t write those Books! I just read them, and they changed my life . . . FOR GOOD!”

If anyone is reading this now, I pray this all happens for you too.
